The unusual morphology of Santorini, forged throughout the millennia by volcanic eruptions and other less intense forces of nature, is probably the first thing one notices when sets foot on the island. What most people don’t know is that Santorini comprises a part of a volcanic-islands cluster. Apart from the main island we all know, there is also the islet of Thirassia, the biggest after Santorini, two smaller ones called Nea Kammeni and Palaia Kammeni, and the smallest of all, Aspronisi.
Thirassia has a stunning volcanic terrain with impressive landscapes and gorgeous secluded beaches, and there is also a small settlement on the islet dispaying an authentic traditional Cycladic character, called Manolas. Nea Kammeni is a black-lava islet well-known for its healing hot springs, and many people hop on a boat tour to this islet and benefit from the properties of its sulfuric waters. Palaia Kammeni, is the oldest islet of the two, and it too is dotted with hot springs. Aspronisi is a privately-own islet, not yet inhabited, and it is said to be the ideal diving place in Santorini.
